Seth Costello was introduced to Hollyoaks in autumn He was among a host of new additions who were brought in as part of producer Paul Marquess's revamp of the show that year. The Costellos were devastated as the horrible truth about Silas was exposed in the aftermath. After Silas's keepsakes from each victim were found upstairs at The Dog, he was finally arrested. Subsequent episodes saw Seth leave the village for a fresh start after such a difficult time.
Things went pretty crazy in the years that followed — Silas escaped from prison, Riley was killed by a stray bullet — so you could argue that Seth was better off out of it. It's been a bit hectic, so sometime soon I'd like to maybe have a bit of a lie-in, and go and sit on a beach for a couple of weeks!
How long has Riley's exit been in the pipeline for, and when did you finish filming? I knew I was leaving quite a while ago now, so then it was a case of waiting to see what my leaving story would be. We decided in early summer that I was going, and then we ended up having a chat in July or August time when they said they'd had an idea of Riley being killed. Is there a part of you that wishes the door had been left open?
But at the same time, sometimes it's nice to make sure the door is completely shut before you go, because it kind of takes that option away from you. It also means that you're getting a good exit and getting the chance to test yourself a little bit before you go.
Was it difficult to keep such a big plot twist to yourself? I hope people were still surprised by the exit storyline! What can you tell us about your final day on set? It was good, though, plus I think we managed to finish early that day which wasn't bad!
I'd kind of been slowing down, because there were only a couple of scripts left to shoot. I think by that point I was well-prepared for the fact that I was going.
